Cupcakes All Around

Toast your Christmas generosity with one of the lovely spicy brews of the season, like Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome Ale (which would go nicely with one of those spice cupcakes) or the clove and orange-infused Schlafly Christmas Ale, which is the perfect accompaniment to gingerbread.

Shootin’ The Boot – Foolish, Foolish Pride

Last week one of the most prolific scoring threats in NBA history made his intentions known that he is planning on retiring from the NBA. After not being able to find anyone willing to sign him on his terms, Allen Iverson has decided to hang it up after 14 seasons.

Shootin’ The Boot – Damn, I Love a Good Rivalry!

Fans in Georgia will agree that the Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster can turn people into just that- big, sloppy monsters. This ale made by the Terrapin Beer Company in Athens, Georgia comes in at a whopping 8.75% ABV. An collection of malts (2-Row Pale, Munich, Crystal 20, Crystal 30, Crystal 45, Crytal 77) and hops (Warrior, Centennial, Cascade, Ahtanum, Simco) combine to make this tantalizing red ale that is so good you forget what the alcohol content is going to turn you into until your friends tell you what you did the next day.

Shootin’ The Boot – Titans- Playoff Contenders?

Perhaps Vince will look to do a little celebrating with a beer from his hometown of Houston, Saint Arnold Christmas Ale. This strong ale (7%ABV) draws its high alcohol content and sweet, malty flavor from the five different malts used to create this brew. Two different types of hops give a spicy, hops flavor that balances out the taste giving it a nice full flavor. This is a good beer for warming you up on those cold winter nights as well as helping you forget how much you spent on Christmas presents this year.

Bar Review: Nellie’s Sports Bar

Nellie’s is a unique institution in Washington: a gay sports bar. It is neither one exclusively – you can go if you’re straight, and you can go if you don’t care about sports. But if you hate sports, don’t go during a big game, and if you’re straight, bring an open mind.

In a town known for beer, Buck fans will have no shortage of options to choose from to enjoy while tailgating. Perhaps since it tends to get a little cold out they may want to tip back a few winter warmers like the Holiday Spice Lager that the Lakefront Brewery creates. This amber colored beer is made with cinnamon, orange zest, clove and generous amounts of honey to give it a rather unique taste. The Mt. Hood hops help balance the flavor in this full-bodied beer that will make you feel like you could take on Jennings after drinking a few (its alcohol content comes in at a hefty 9.5% ABV).

Shootin’ The Boot – And the Rivalry Continues…

Go out to the parking lot prior to the game Texas-Texas A&M game and I would be willing to bet that you will find a few folks drinking a Bombshell Blonde from the Southern Star Brewing Company in Conroe, Texas. These guys have only been brewing this treat for just over a year, having started it in October of 2008. Fermented at a cold temperature in order to give it a nice, clean, easy to drink finish this golden ale will remind of you of yeasty bread flavors with a dominant hops flavor to give it the taste that tailgaters everywhere can enjoy, at 5.25% ABV you’ll have to worry more about missing the game because you are in the bathroom than anything else.
