Duffy’s Irish Restaurant & Pub – usually just referred to as ‘Duffy’s’ – is thoroughly unpretentious. Its location a block or two off of U Street is perfectly suitable; it stands out from the barren surroundings, yet does not meet U Street’s usual hipness quotient. It is virtually a dive, but in the best sense. And the Guinness is surprisingly good.
Closing out its third touring year, the popular Beer, Bourbon and Barbecue Festival traveled well above its comfortable stomping grounds south of the Mason-Dixon Line in an effort to show the Yankees up in New York City a thing or two about eating and drinking your way into a coma. The show offered up a generous supply of over 60 beers, 40 bourbons and a selection of barbecue and the fixings from pit masters up and down the East Coast.
The DC branch of the small, national ChopHouse & Brewery chain is justly praised for brewing beer in house in the heart of the capital. The movie is based on the true story of John Crowley and his fight to save the lives of two of his children, Megan and Patrick. Both are confined to wheelchairs and require nearly round the clock care due to the debilitating disease they both have. Their prognosis is not good as they are expected to lose more and more muscle and some of their organs become engorged. Life expectancy for both is 8-9 years; the movie opens on Megan’s 8th birthday (Patrick is six).
Historically, Damages has tackled one major legal case with each season. In season 3 the series will revolve around a story line that many viewers may be able to relate to. Close’s Hughes has been appointed as special investigator in charge of finding out what a diabolical investor has done with the billions he defrauded his clients of.
