The marathon season that is the National Basketball Association began with four games played on Tuesday, October 27. Eighty-one games later the second season, otherwise known as the playoffs will be ushered in where the boys will be weeded out from the men.

October 17 saw the end of the inaugural Americas Rugby Championship with the 6th ranked team in the world, the Jaguars of Argentina, defeating the BC Bears 35-11. The Bears earned the right to play in the finals after narrowly defeating the Ontario Blues 12-8. Argentina had a much easier time with the USA side beating them in convincing fashion 57-10.

That means the postseason action is in full swing. The ALCS/NLCS (best of seven) action is underway across the nation. Sunday night the Phillies returned home looking to break their 1 to 1 tie with the Dodgers, and the Yankees and Angels took the day to travel out west.

Sport-ober, more commonly known as October, is the absolute best time of year. Temperatures are cooling off and layered clothing is coming back in style. As a larger-than-average size guy myself, I love it.

Every season always has a few surprises. If I had any inclination six weeks ago that the Titans would be the new doormat of the league, the Bengals would be tied for first in their division with the Steelers, and that the Broncos would finally figure out how to play defense I would have put a little money on it and made a fortune.

Most of the MLB divisions were essentially won a long time ago, but the last week saw it become official as the regular season ended and the post season began.

Football fans will either rejoice or recoil from the latest addition to the professional football family. October 8 saw the inaugural season of the new United Football League kickoff in fine fashion as the Locomotives of Las Vegas took on the Redwoods of California.
