In honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of Bitches Brew, Miles Davis’ 1970 paradigm-shifting landmark fusion breakthrough, Delaware’s Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has created its own ‘Bitches Brew.’
That would be plenty, especially if it’s really good beer and chili. But lots of other good food, tons of personality and history, a friendly crowd and staff, and enough flat-screens to follow whatever you like as you sit bar-side – now we’re nearing mythical status. And there are Happy Hour specials on top of all that.

Another change to this year’s tournament is in the venue. For the second year in a row the tournament will be held entirely within the United States. All games were played in Colorado at Glendale’s Infinity Park and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. This year games will be played at Infinity Park once again, but the last day of competition will be held at Red Bull Arena, home of MLS franchise the New York Red Bull.
There is something to be said for the über-fancy – that ivy-league, polished mahogany, where’s-my-tuxedo atmosphere. The Old Ebbitt Grill doesn’t go quite to that extreme, but that may just be due to the economic crisis.
Okay, so I almost spit out the beer I was drinking when I read this article. I would never make a bogus phone call to the cops, but somehow if I did, I’d probably follow this guy’s lead.
McFadden’s in DC is a palatial oaken pub which has mysteriously sold its soul to the college and corporate gods. When empty of late-night, cover-paying patrons, it has terrific potential. It is also then possible to see that the beleaguered bartenders are actually personable and skilled. Weekends (and many a late weekday night) they may find themselves reduced to simply filling the troughs of trendy club-goers with dubious IDs.
Raising funds for three worthy Long Island non-profit groups, Camp Pa-qua-tuck, Lighthouse Mission, and the Bellport High School Scholarship Fund, an evening of great food and drink is planned for June 10, 2010 from 6-10pm at the Bellport Country Club. The event is sponsored by the Bellport Chamber of Commerce, South Shore Wine & Liquors, and Bellport Cold Beer and Soda.
