Conor O’Neill’s brings a piece of Ireland to Boulder through their traditional food, brews and atmosphere. Conor’s, as the locals call it, is located right off the Pearl Street mall. The pub’s blue façade is not only hard to miss, but is also representational of St. James Gate in Dublin, Ireland (which also happens to be the home of the Guinness Brewery). However, once you get past the front door you will notice the tin advertising signs showcased along the walls. These signs, along with carefully chosen Irish street signs make up the traditional décor of an Irish pub. In addition to these signs, daily specials are posted on the walls for your convenience. The ambiance is relaxed and usually dimly lit to add to the tavern feel. With bar stools or booths, you choose your style of drinking and/or dining.
Since Conor’s is a traditional Irish style pub, it offers an Irish inspired menu. They are known for their Fish & Chips and a beer special, which is only offered on Mondays. The pub also provides similar special offers with burger and wings, of course accompanied by a free beer of your choice. These deals are only to be had on certain days of the week, so make sure to check the special offers before you order.
This pub has a variety of beers both draft and bottled. The draft beers are proudly served in imperial pints and include lagers, ales, cider, cream ales and stouts. Drink specials vary by day, aside from the $1 off bar drinks available everyday from 2-7PM. If you’re looking for an enjoyable way to start your morning, try stopping in for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday for the Early Bird Breakfast Special until 3PM. This special includes $2 Irish Bloody Marys and Irish Mimosas. However, if you are not into specialty drinks, stick with beer and don’t forget to try Connor O’Neill’s Cralc Ale. Out of the beers on tap, Conor’s carries the most variety in ales, including Bass Pale Ale, Newcastle Brown Ale, Smithwicks Irish Ale, etc., but it wouldn’t be an Irish pub without Guinness and Murphy’s stouts.
Conor’s is always a fun hangout spot to meet friends or to just grab a beer. The best part about the pub is their special events and activities. Hosting live entertainment of local bands is a frequent occurrence and brings in a lot of people. If the band is good, make sure to get there early because by ten or eleven the pub could reach maximum capacity. Although it is a good sized place, including an outside patio, if they reach maximum capacity they follow a strict one in, one out system. This system is pretty self explanatory, once at maximum capacity an additional person can only enter if someone leaves. Other than live music, Conor’s also hosts a number of activities from Pub Quiz to Open Mic. Every Sunday Conor O’Neill’s host an Irish session of traditional acoustic Irish music. If you have never experienced an Irish jam session, it is time you check it out.
Pros: Good beer, relaxed atmosphere and a variety of entertainment.
Cons: If you are looking for a fancy feast, this is not the place to dine. But if fish and chips is what you had in mind, don’t go anywhere else.
