Meat + Beer = Food for Fall

barbecueMeat has been consumed with beer since man first brewed alcohol from grains.  A good idea never goes out of fashion.  Meat cooked with beer is an even better idea, whether it’s beer-battered shrimp or beer-can chicken.  When the weather turns cooler, it’s time for hearty fare, something that will fuel you up and keep you warm. The following recipe is a zesty variation of a hot dog boiled in beer: Barbecued Kielbasa

Ingredients

-1 pkg. kielbasa (can use turkey kielbasa)
-1  cup tomato-based barbecue sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray’s)
-1/2 cup amber ale (like Fat Tire)
-1/2 cup light brown sugar

Directions

1. Slice the kielbasa into bite-sized chunks.

2. Mix barbecue sauce, beer and brown sugar.

3. Dump the meat and the sauce into a crock pot.

4. Cook for 6 to 8 hours on low heat.

5. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes to soak up the sauce.

6. Add some sauerkraut on the side or a green salad.

Serves 4-6, depending on how hungry everyone is.
