Represent America with American Beer

No word yet as to what beer President Obama drank with Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Sargent James Crowley.

For those of you who’ve been living under a rock, please read carefully. According to the Wall Street Journal, about two weeks ago, Sgt. Crowley, who is white, arrested Prof. Gates, who is black, at his Cambridge home after responding to a call about a suspected break-in there. Each man accused the other of belligerence. President  Obama added fuel to the fire last week by saying the police had behaved “stupidly.”

It didn’t take long for America to react. To show no hard feelings, our dear President decided to invite both Crowley and Gates for a nice round of beer. What beers will they be drinking?  White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said this afternoon, the President will sipping on Bud Light (no surprise there), while Gates will be having Red Stripe, and Crowley will be drinking Blue Moon.

For the sake of the brewers of America, I really hope Gibbs is wrong. These beers are all products of foreign companies. Even the WSJ picked up on that. Red Stripe is brewed by London-based Diageo PLC. obama-beerBlue Moon is sold by a joint venture in which London-based SABMiller has a majority stake. Bud Light, made by Anheuser-Busch, was bought last year by a huge Belgian-Brazilian company.

It just doesn’t make sense why they wouldn’t support local breweries in Washington D.C. like Capitol City Brewing Company or" target="_blank">Shenandoah Brewing Company.

More to come later today…
