IMG_7552Located within feet of the Crestwood train station, Stephen’s Green has been hopping ever since it opened last month.  It’s in the perfect location for an after work drink or a place to meet the family for dinner.  I have been there a few times since the opening, and each time immediately after walking through the big wooden doors, I was greeted with friendly smiles and a proud “Hello!” from each passing staff member.  The friendly attitude of the staff is properly matched with the comfortable aura of the establishment.  There are three flat screen televisions along the walls of the bar but none in the restaurant section, which couples the sports bar feel with the family dinner atmosphere.

Going into the restaurant around 6 PM, I was lucky enough to be seated right away.  Minutes after, a steady stream of people began walking in hoping to be seated.  Since the place is relatively small, a wait is to be expected, but I am definitely not alone in saying that Stephen’s Green is worth it!  I tried the Dublin Style Fish and Chips, which I ate while sipping at a tall glass of Blue Moon. My mother enjoyed a glass of Stella Artois with her Bangers and Mash.  We opted for the most Irish-sounding dishes, but the menu also featured soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, and more.  My brother ordered the nightly special of Nachos Grande and after taking his first bite said, “You don’t know how happy I am I got this!”  A table of four who were testing out bar for the first time clearly enjoyed their experience.

While the restaurant closes at 10 PM, the bar stays open.  The bar has already drawn in some regulars and welcomes newcomers.  On tap, the bar offers Guinness, Schmidicks, Harp, Samuel Adams, Blue Moon, Stella Artois, Bud Light, and Budweiser.  The bartenders recommend either Guinness or Blue Moon and said that the most popular beers that they serve are Guinness, Blue Moon, and Coors Light.

Overall patrons gave this bar a good rating.  “It’s just what this town needed.  A place with good beer and familiar faces,” Steven Schmitz of Bronxville, said.

About the barIMG_7547

Stephen’s Green is owned by Stephanie O’Sullivan, Tony O’Sullivan, and John Burke.  Siblings Stephanie and John are from Mayo, Ireland, and Stephanie’s husband Tony is from Galway, Ireland.  They had made the conscious decision not to advertise the opening of the bar because they had wanted to start off slow.  They had not even told their friends about it, but as soon as the doors opened that Friday night, people started coming in.  The owners are planning on introducing live music to their bar scene.  They hope to have Irish entertainers perform after the dinner rush dies down on Saturday nights.  Stephanie said she is so excited for the bar’s success so far. “We are so lucky.  We have a great staff and our food is wonderful.  Nothing fancy, but we’ve had no complaints!”

Pros: Delicious simple food that goes perfectly with the beer selection and the incredibly personable staff.

Cons: It’s a little on the noisy side during the busy times.
