Best Time to Go: Monday – “Margarita Madness” ($3.00 frozen margaritas in six different flavors, every Monday from noon to midnight), Saturday/Sunday – “South of the Border Brunch,” with unlimited frozen lime and strawberry margaritas, mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, from noon until four.

Beer List: Corona, Corona Light, Heineken, Amstel Light, Negra Modelo, Pacifico, Dos Equis, Dos Equis Amber

maracasDubbed the “Fiesta Palace,” Maracas Bar & Grill serves up your traditional menu of Mexican entrees and frozen margaritas within a festive, colorful ambience, and is recommended more as an end to your evening.

The drinks lack the “fall-over-after-two” strength of other Mexican bar/grill establishments, but for the price (three dollar margaritas on Mondays and unlimited during Sunday brunch), one really can’t complain. As long as your server keeps the frosted glasses coming, you’ll eventually reach the desired goal. Promise.

For the food, Maracas offers your standard “Mexican-American” dishes, but overall, doesn’t impress with quality and/or substance. Even the salsa that accompanies their complimentary chips is quite bland.

If you happen to stumble into Maracas (of course, following a much stronger margarita elsewhere in the West Village), make sure it’s during a drink special.

Pros: Festive atmosphere and pleasant wait staff service. Plastic toys placed on top of your drinks! Prices are inexpensive (during event specials).

Cons: Margaritas could have more of a “kick” to their taste and strength, in terms of alcohol amount, but never expect much in low-price, all-day drink specials. Crowd size and noise level can become a problem, but please, this is New York—what else can you honestly expect?
