Best Time to Go: Wednesday Night

maritascantinafrontIf you can’t already tell by the name, Marita’s Cantina is a Mexican bar and restaurant. Its festive chili pepper and cactus decorations plus a ‘countdown to Cinco De Mayo’ clock make it a friendly down to earth place to celebrate the Mexican Independence day. By day it’s a restaurant, complete with full service seating, a complete lunch and dinner menu with a variety of Mexican appetizers, entrees and desserts.

Around 9pm the attention of the restaurant strays from the tables and is drawn to the bar. Even though they have promotional themes for each day of the week, Wednesday nights seem to be their best, and most successful. They offer discounted drinks, which vary, and everyone’s favorite bar food $0.25 wings!! The free wing promotion doesn’t start until 10:30 and somehow they amazingly run out each Wednesday by midnight, but it draws a great crowd. The area gets filled, with plenty of different people, ranging from college students to locals to random people drifting by, but the crowd is ALWAYS entertaining. Even though there are a considerable amount of patrons in the restaurant it’s never crowded to the point that you can’t move around and enjoy yourself, but you may have trouble getting attention from the bartenders. The tiny bar seems to be understaffed considering the large crowd it draws each week, but if you wait around long enough you WILL be served.

What does the drink selection look like? Well of course they serve Corona, Corona Light, Tecate, Sol, Negro Modela and Dos XX Special Lager to contribute to the Mexican theme. In addition to these ‘south of the border’ bottles they also serve domestic favorites Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, Yuengling, MGD, and Michelob Ultra. The best thing about Marita’s is its chill atmosphere. Regardless of how crowded it gets or what the occasion, you can always relax and feel comfortable at this chill bar.

Pros: Cheap drinks and daily specials

Cons: Early closing time
